Perky Jerky Review

perky jerky1

I am not one for snacking, but when I am sitting here in front of my computer sometimes I just want something to get me through until it’s time for dinner. Plus you’ve got to give immediate love and respect to a product with a name like Perky Jerky.  Since cutting back on what I eat and the boyfriend making snacks that is way out of my calorie intake these days I found Perky Jerky to be a very good substitute.

turkey countJerky Perky Turkey is only 50 Calories per serving with 0 fat making this a very healthy snack. Now what I loved most about this Jerky was that it was not chewy like any other I have tried. It was juicy and tender. No fighting to chew it. It also was not spicy so even the kids enjoyed it. Turkey Perky Jerky comes with no MSG, no nitrates, and no preservatives. It relies on Guarana as its energy-inducing ingredient.

perky jerky2perky3Now I am not one for beef products because I do not like to eat red meat, but even the Perky Jerky Beef was great. Again the calories are low and the fat is 0. The first thing I taste from the surface of these pieces is a good deal of sweet, followed by a light saltiness, and a light tang.

The chewing texture starts out with a little bit of initial chewing resistance, but easily breaks down with nominal effort. Once chewed down to a soft mass, it tends to feel little mushy, somewhat gummy, and not at all like what you’d expect turkey meat to feel like.

This is by far the best Jerky I have ever came across, and will continue to be my go to snack at home and in the car.

Mountain House Review and Giveaway- Ended

Today we decided we would start the product test for the many bags of freeze dried food from Mountain House.I got the kids up pretty early today to hit the store for wraps so we could start our test out right. Once I got home the first thing I did was reach for the frying pan, before grabbing our first bag of Mountain House Freeze Dried Breakfast Skillet. Good thing I read directions and was surprised to find I did not need the pan, nor a microwave. All we had to do was add 1 1/2 cups of boiling water to the bag stir and let it sit for 8-9 mins. The first thing I thought was great nothing like soggy wraps for breakfast.

When I opened the bag I was shocked to find most of the water had absorbed into the food and out came the most delicious looking breakfast mix ever. It was packed full of hash browns, scrambled eggs, sausage, peppers and onions. A little water was still in the bag but once I poured it all out in a bowl to start the wraps I noticed it was not going to dry out, nor was it going to be soggy either.

Breakfast Breakfast 2I love the fact I was able to boil water and add it to the mix and walk away without having to worry about “burning” breakfast as I was folding laundry. The Breakfast Skillet tasted so good and was so easy to make, I think I found my new favorite breakfast food when I’m on the go, plus it would save a trip to McDonalds for a dried out burrito in the mornings. I added Mozzarella cheese and very light mustard to ours. This morning we managed to get 13 grams of protein in.

Thanks to the kids and their ability to eat so fast I was unable to get pictures of their lunch. My daughter Erin decided she wanted to give the freeze dried Buffalo Chicken a try. She wanted to add blue cheese and mozzarella cheese. I did manage to sneak in a bit and I’m still trying to figure out  how freeze dried food can taste so good. We had a lot left, seeing it tasted so good we used the rest of it to make the greatest chicken wing dip I have ever had. Hunter thought it was too spicy so we made the freeze dried chicken salad. With it being warm neither of us cared to much for it, but once we put it in the refrigerator and it was cold it made a great lunch. It was loaded with chicken and cranberries which gave it a sweet and yet delectable taste.

All of these were made from the pouch they came in and with no mess it was an easy breakfast and lunch, and clean up was simple. If you have any left all you do is close up the pouch and refrigerate.

Arctic Zero Ice Cream Review

artic ZeroWe were recently given a chance to try Arctic Zero Ice Cream. After reading a few bad reviews it made me want to try it even more. I mean really how can ice cream be nothing but heavenly good on a sweltering hot day. Packed the kids up and went to our local Walmart were they seemed to be the only ones who sold it. The kids decided on the Vanilla Maple, and the Chocolate Peanut Butter in the pints. Which were the only two kinds that were in stock at the time, when I know there are at least 7 different kinds which can be bought on

arctic 2

For a bedtime snack the kids oped for their ice cream. I had to be a little faster than the kids on this one so I could get a taste of what turned out to be the most amazing ice cream I have ever had.

I recall when I was younger the corner store used to sell real homemade Italian Ice that was to die for on a hot day. The Arctic Zero Ice cream came close to the same taste as I remember as a kid, plus had the same texture. The Vanilla Maple was great. It was not  strong but you know it was there. I never recalled ever having Chocolate Peanut Butter Italian ice, but I can only imagine it would taste like heaven.

I love the fact the kids loved this ice cream. It’s very healthy having only  45 Calories, 0 grams of fat per serving, and only 6 and 7 grams of sugar. Plus I know I can eat this without feeling guilty.

Arctic Zero not only taste great, but it’s also healthy. shhh the kids don’t have to know.

To Go Brands (must read if your too active to eat healthy) Review

Between working, going to school and the family life I know I do not eat to healthy or get all the right vitamins during the day, so when I was given the opportunity to do a review for To Go Brands I knew this would not only benefit me but also you as the readers as well.

I can’t for the life of me remember when life started getting so complicated when I started to forget to take my morning vitamins, or when I stopped just eating healthy all together. I more often find myself picking off the kids plates than making one of my own. I think I started doing this when as soon as I would sit down someone would need something, or a drink got spilled. Then again maybe it’s just because I’m getting older as I hate to admit.

I found myself sitting at the drive-throw at McDonalds almost every morning I am running late.  Yup that sure was not healthy and where were my daily servings of fruits and veggies. It was not until I came across To Go Brands where I found Greens To Go. Nothing is more easy than grabbing a bottle of water as I’m running out the door and adding in a packet of my now favorite breakfast in a bottle on these crazy mornings. What I loved most was even though it’s packed full of organic fruits and vegetables was it has the delicious flavor of apples and melon. I was thankful it did not taste like Vegetable juice.

Lunch between classes is almost a battle making it from one side of campus to the other before I could finish my sandwich. Food is not permitted in class but drinks are. This is where I found Extreme Berries To Go and Acai Energy Boost to fit into my schedule. No longer was lunch a battle of it’s own. After a few classes even my professor noticed a difference in my work. So I told her what I was doing for lunch. She now has a box in her desk, and told me she carries them in her bag for when she is between classes.

Ok so we all snack every now and again. For me this is late at night when the kids go to bed I found myself working online with a bowl of Cheerios. I guess it could be worst. I could sit here with a bag of chips, get through the bag before I even realize it, yup did that a few times more than I would like to admit.  To Go Brands also carries Healthy To Go which can be added to cereal, yogurt, or any of your favorite food or drinks and I found that the probiotic digestive powder mix to work great for digestive health.

To Go Brands also has a fun way for kids to take their vitamins. Vita Rocks are like pop candy for kids with daily multivitamins. My kids found these to be fun and I do not hear the constant complaining that they do not like the taste.
